This extremely long staple gives the wool extra strength and
makes Tibetan carpets the most durable in the world. The unusually
high lanolin content gives the wool a natural stain resistance
and a very luxurious feel to the touch. The Tibetan wool
is trekked by yaks over the Himalayas to Nepal where it is hand-washed.
The wool is then allowed to air dry before the process of hand
carding begins. There is gentle combing of the wool to untangle
and straighten the fibers to align them for hand spinning. Master
weavers then put to use their artistic gifts to create the masterpieces of today and the heirlooms of tomorrow. |
