These supreme quality rugs are hand-made in Nepal by master Tibetan craftsmen who were
forced to flee their homeland after the Communist invasion of 1959. The refugees took
their ancient rug-making traditions to Nepal, where they live in familial communities
and enjoy proper housing, food, medical and childcare, and among the best working
conditions in the country. They make their rugs with the world's highest quality wool. It is sheared from the Himalayan Mountain sheep, a species found only on the Himalayan plateau, then trekked in by yak, hand spun, and woven in small batches to create the rich, lustrous finish found only in the finest of Tibetan rugs. |
