Improve Air Quality and Health with Wool Carpet and Rugs

Karastan Rugs and Carpets have become the first company to add the Wool: Clean Air Certified label on all of its wool carpets and rugs.  Products approved for Clean Air Certified labels are all tested at an independent laboratory and must pass very stringent VOC emission tests for 13 contaminants.  Products must meet the standards that are scientifically established to verify the reductions of VOCs including formaldehyde, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide indoors.

VOCs are also known as Volatile Organic Compounds.  These compounds have significant vapor pressures which can affect human health.   Since people today spend most of their time indoors, long term exposure to VOCs can contribute to general health issues such as skin irritation, hypersensitivity reactions, and odor and taste sensations.  Symptoms are often dealt with after-the-fact by ‘airing out’ buildings however there can be lingering effects of various toxins.  Wool is scientifically proven to significantly reduce indoor air contaminants within seven hours of installation and keeps these contaminants out of the air for 30 years.

Unfortunately, Wool and its amazing attributes are overlooked by most consumers as it represents only two percent of the market. Through the Clean Air Certified program, Karastan is bringing wool to the forefront where it can be noticed for the naturally great product that it is.  Coles is proud to carry carpet that has the Wool: Clean Air Certified label to provide our customers with the very best products available.
